Garden Grove family home burglarized on Halloween – NBC Los Angeles

A Garden Grove family’s home was broken into on Halloween while they were out trick-or-treating with their toddler.

Orange County couple Vicki Nguyen and Peter Lee say they’re left reeling after their home was broken into by thieves who targeted them on what was supposed to be a fun night out. According to the pair, they realized after the fact that they were being followed by thieves who followed them to several locations.

While in Orange, the couple noticed their car’s tire had been slashed. Moments later, they received a call from their security company notifying them of a break-in.

“I panicked, I thought this was a really bad sign and so I checked my phone to see if anyone was in our house and it was offline,” Nguyen said. “My husband was checking his phone, he was also offline… so he called our neighbor because we were sharing this group chat on WhatsApp and asked the neighbor to check if anyone was inside and asked to FaceTime us so we could see what is happening “

During the FaceTime call, the victims’ neighbor said the thieves were taking a safe from the home and loading it into a vehicle. Security footage the couple was later able to retrieve at the time the thieves did it.

“There were two guys — masks, gloves, hoodies,” Lee said. “These guys knew exactly what they were doing. They killed the power of the house… they went straight for the goods. They knew exactly where to go, meaning the place wasn’t ransacked.”

In addition to the safe, the thieves also took the couple’s jewelry and an expensive collection of bags that Nguyen had amassed over the years.

“It’s my life’s earnings, all the years I’ve invested in our business,” she said. “Our whole life savings and things like that were just going down the drain.”

“Pure and nasty,” Lee said. “People like us, we work hard for our things. It is not correct. At the end of the day, we don’t feel safe. We no longer feel like our home is our home.”

The Garden Grove Police Department is investigating the theft. Additionally, the couple say they are considering hiring a private detective to bring the culprits to justice.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Garden Grove police at 714-741-5704.
