ALPENA, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — A man killed himself after running from a traffic stop in Alpena on foot.

At 2:38 p.m., Saturday, dispatchers alerted law enforcement to “be on the lookout for a reckless driver,” the Alpena Police Department said in a statement.

The vehicle was later located near McRae Park and a traffic stop was attempted.

Police said the driver, a 47-year-old man, got out of the vehicle and ran into a home.

Police said that after a short time at the residence, the man exited the home and “ran a short distance before ultimately taking his own life.”

Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and the man’s identity has not yet been released out of respect for his family.

The police department said Michigan State Police assisted officers in the incident.
