Kamala Harris Just Made a Surprise Pre-Election Cameo on ‘Saturday Night Live’

It felt somewhat inevitable that real life Kamala Harris would ultimately respond to Maya Rudolph’s impression of her on Saturday Night Live by appearing on the show in person, but the 8H studio audience was still excited when the vice president and 2024 Democratic nominee came this Saturday to appear outdoors with Rudolph. “I wish I could talk to someone who was in my shoes,” Rudolph-as-Harris lamented, wishing aloud that he could talk to “a black, South Asian woman running for president ” before looking in the mirror and seeing the real Harris looking back at her, greeting her with, “You and me both, sis.”

“I don’t laugh like that, do I?” Harris asked her SNL Doppelganger before the two launched into a mutually pumping speech about the significance of this election and eventually took the stage side by side. “I’m voting for us,” Rudolph-as-Harris told the current vice president before the two shouted the show’s signature “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” slogan straight into the room together.

The final episode of Saturday Night Live ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election, headlines were likely even before Harris’ presentation, largely due to the fact that the host of the week was the frequently speech-generating comedian, former SNL writer and host six times John Mulaney (and the musical guest was the singer Chappell Roanwhom no one was ever normal.) In addition to Harris’s cameo, SNL alum Andy Samberg reprized his role as Harris’ doting husband Doug Emhoff and current cast member Bowen Yang sort of became JD Vance all over again; in the end, though, even Harris’ brief appearance made her the scene-stealer of the night.
