Tesco bans staff from wearing headphones amid customer protests

Tesco prohibited staff from wearing HEADSET on the store floor.

Movement in supermarket The giant’s updated uniform policy requires staff not to wear helmets when in customer-facing areas of the store.

Although previously part of the supermarket’s health and safety policy, the requirement is now included in the uniform policy.

The change comes amid falling customer satisfaction scores for the chain, according to an independent industry body.

It is understood to aim to ensure that staff answer staff questions as much as possible, but excludes those using hearing or sensory aids, as well as company headsets.

According to the Customer Service Institute, which analyzes retailer satisfaction, Tesco’s scores fell from 81.7 two years ago to 79.8 last July and again to 79.4 this year from a possibly 100.

Tesco said in its latest results that its customer satisfaction scores “continued to improve”.

It comes after the rival chain’s staff So hit to a move to repeatedly play unlicensed music in the store.

Asda supermarket bosses have changed the music on their in-store radio to songs by unsigned artists in an alleged bid to avoid paying expensive royalties.

But staff at the supermarket makeover criticized the move, saying it was “repetitive” and “mentally tiring”.

On a staff Reddit forum, some slammed the change, saying it was “fussy.”

But an Asda spokesman said: “We made this change in February to align with our other sites, including warehouses and in-store cafes.

“We appreciate that colleagues have different tastes in music and we always welcome that feedback when making decisions about how our stores operate, including the music played on Asda Radio.”
