Football St. Edward vs. Findlay: Eagles kick off title defense with shutout win

CLEVELAND, Ohio – St. Edward began what it hopes will be a fourth straight state title Friday with a 48-0 win over Findlay in the first round of the OHSAA Division I Region 1 playoffs.

St. Seventh-seeded Edward improves to 6-5 and will play No. 2 Toledo Whitmer in the regional quarterfinals next week. Findlay, which was seeded 10th, ends its season at 4-7.

St. Edward took over the game early, scoring touchdowns from Nate Gregory and Joe Saffold, along with two PATs from Kellen Moyer. The Eagles took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter.

Gregory and Saffold both scored their second touchdowns of the game in the second quarter.

The Eagles continued to dominate the rest of the half, leading 35-0 at halftime and starting a clock in the second half. Anthony Camargo started the third quarter with a 69-yard run, then on the next play scored a 2-yard touchdown for the Eagles.

Landon Lehmer scored the final touchdown of the game for the Eagles off a pass from Caden Yondo.
