FBI is warning voters on Tuesday about attempted fraud in the 2024 election, saying the agency has been impersonated in at least two fabricated videos designed to shake Americans’ confidence in the political process.

In one case, the office said in a November 5 press release, the FBI’s name and insignia were used for a fake news clip purporting to be a terrorist warning from the agency.

“The fabricated news clip falsely reports that the FBI said Americans should ‘vote remotely’ because of a high terrorist threat at polling stations,” the FBI wrote. “This video is not authentic and does not accurately represent the current threat situation or polling location security.”

Another fake video purporting to be from the agency alleged that the management of five prisons in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Arizona “manipulated inmate voting and colluded with a political party,” the FBI said.

“The integrity of elections is among our highest priorities, and the FBI works closely with state and local law enforcement partners to respond to election threats and protect our communities as Americans exercise their right to vote,” the agency wrote . “Attempts to mislead the public with false content about the FBI’s threat assessments and activities are intended to undermine our democratic process and erode trust in the electoral system.”

The Justice Department told Fox News that Attorney General Merrick Garland will receive a daily morning threat briefing from the FBI and will be briefed on the day’s developments by his law enforcement and national security teams. He also planned to stop by the FBI’s National Election Command Post for updates.

The warning comes a day after the bureau and the Intelligence Community (IC) highlighted efforts by foreign adversaries, especially Russia and Iran, to sow distrust among Americans in the electoral process.

“The Intelligence Community (IC) has observed foreign adversaries, particularly Russia, conducting additional influence operations designed to undermine public confidence in the integrity of US elections and fuel divisions among Americans,” the statement said. “CI expects these activities to intensify leading up to Election Day and in the weeks ahead, and foreign influence narratives will focus on swing states.”

Russian entities produced videos and fabricated news stories designed to make Americans question the legitimacy of the election and portray Americans using violence against each other over political differences, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) said Monday ).

Russian agents allegedly fabricated a video in which an individual alleged election fraud in Arizona involving fake overseas ballots and the manipulation of voter rolls to favor Vice President Kamala Harris. The Arizona secretary denied those claims, according to the agency.

These videos “risk inciting violence, including against election officials,” ODNI said.

The FBI, along with ODNI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, also said Iran “conducted malicious cyber activities to compromise former President Trump’s campaign.”

They noted that Iran is determined to seek revenge against certain US officials it holds responsible for the January 2020 death of Quds Force commander Qasem Solemani.

“He repeatedly singled out the former President Donald Trump among his priority targets for revenge,” the statement said.
