Woman seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Haiku

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 44-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash in Haiku on Halloween morning, Maui police said.

It happened just before 6am on West Kuiaha Road.

A preliminary investigation found that a Kia Sorento was traveling southbound when it veered off the roadway, struck a fence and overturned.

Police said Good Samaritans pulled two people from the vehicle — a 44-year-old woman, who was the driver, and a 2-year-old girl.

The woman was unresponsive and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.

The child was not injured, police said.

MPD is still investigating whether speed, alcohol and drugs were factors.
