Oakland County man who stabbed ex-wife’s new partner multiple times in front of their children sentenced

FARMINGTON Hills, Michigan. – A man who stabbed his ex-wife’s new partner in Farmington Hills last yearand pushed down on the chest to make it bleed while their children were in the room, was convicted.

This week, Curtis Leroy Washington Jr. was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison on one count of assault with intent to murder, along with a second felony charge of domestic violence.

The background of the case

The stabbing happened around 1:50 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at the Timberidge Apartments near Grand River Avenue and Middlebelt Road.

Washington allegedly broke into his ex-wife’s home and found his new partner there.

He then pulled out a knife and stabbed the man once in the back and four times in the chest, according to police.

Body camera video showed Washington pushing on the man’s chest after stabbing him to make him bleed.

It all happened with the baby and Washington’s youngest child in the room, just inches away.

Responding officers quickly assessed the situation and decided not to shoot. Officers then worked to rescue the stabbing victim.

“This could have very easily escalated into a deadly force situation,” Farmington Hills Police Chief Jeff King said last year after the shooting. “The suspect had an up and down motion on top of the victim in chaotic low light. These officers, because of their quality and ongoing training, were able to assess that situation and quickly decide not to use that increased force response.”

This stabbing was not the first time Washington has been linked to a domestic violence dispute. Sixteen days before this happened, Washington was arrested for domestic violence and released on bail.
