Pastor (society) reveals personal information of “multi-layer student” confirms fine

The Supreme Court has ruled that a pastor who criticized the sexual orientation of an unknowing student and even revealed his real name and face could be punished for defamation.

On the 8th, the Supreme Court upheld the court’s initial fine of 500,000 won for Mr. Seo, who was charged with defamation.

The Supreme Court pointed out that revealing the facts belonging to the secret private domain of the victim, not even a public person, on the Internet along with his real name or face is a serious violation of his personal rights itself.

Seo, a church pastor, was put on trial in 2018 on charges of revealing that A was in a polyamorous relationship and polyamorous life on his blog.

The first trial later acquitted him, but the second fined him 500,000 won for writing for libel, including repeatedly pointing out that the victim’s sexual orientation was incorrect, and the Supreme Court ruled the same.
