Los Angeles County outlines steps to protect mail-in and Election Day ballots

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — With voting already underway, election officials and law enforcement are teaming up to protect your ballot.

“We have video surveillance; we have 24/7 onsite security for this facility. We take the security of this voting process very seriously,” said LA County Clerk Dean Logan.

LA County voters’ ballots will go to the ballot processing center in the City of Industry.

LA County Sheriff Robert Luna stopped by to discuss the partnership.

“We will have a significant amount of additional staff on the ground as we prepare for the election, election day and even post-election events. I also want to state that interfering with the electoral process can have very serious consequences. , and it can be a misdemeanor or a misdemeanor,” Luna said.

On election night, ballots from 648 polling places will be transported by sheriff’s deputies to the ballot processing center.

“We will be ready to respond when necessary, if necessary, but I want people to feel safe that they can go to any polling place and not be intimidated or afraid that something might happen,” Luna said.

TSA-certified explosive detection K9s will also be sniffing around voting centers.

The ballots that come from the ballot boxes are already monitored.

“We service those drop boxes daily so the ballots that are returned there don’t sit there idle. We have 36 teams that go out on the field every day to check those tapes,” Logan said.

This is the first time this facility has been used for a general election.

Logan said transparency is critical to maintaining voter confidence.

“This building is available for observers to come and watch the process. We know the voting process belongs to the voters. We’re here to facilitate it, to make sure it’s running safely and properly,” Logan said.
