Metro Nashville Public Schools celebrates highest graduation rate in history

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Public Schools announced it has achieved its highest graduation rate in history.

MNPS is celebrating a 4.5 percent year-over-year increase in the district’s graduation rate, bringing it to 85.7 percent for the 2023-24 cohort.

The 85.7 percent is the district’s highest graduation rate since data tracking began in 2002.

“Making sure every student is known means giving every student the opportunity to learn, grow and reach their full potential during MNPS,” said Dr. Adrienne Battle, Superintendent of Metro Nashville Public Schools. “Over the past few years, we have been intent on creating pathways to lifelong success by equipping students with clear transition plans and the support they need to achieve their dreams. This focused commitment is reflected in our record graduation rate, which represents the hard work of our students, educators and the entire MNPS community.”

MNPS reports that two of its high schools, Maplewood and Glencliff saw gains of more than 10 percent in their graduation rate, while five other schools, Hunters Lane, Antioch, Overton, Pearl-Cohn and McGavock saw increases of more than 5 % each.

Three optional schools achieved a 100% graduation rate: Early College High School, Nashville Big Picture High School and MNPS Virtual School.

“The record graduation rates at MNPS underscore the impact of strategic investments in college and career readiness that address the growing needs of Nashville’s workforce,” said Ralph Schulz, President and CEO of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. “Programs like University MNPS and New Skills Ready Nashville are critical in preparing students for high-demand career paths, and these record-breaking results show how partnerships can provide opportunities that empower students and drive our region’s economic strength.”
