The man who killed a 17-year-old motorcyclist in a crash has been arrested

Stamford, CT – The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Team has completed its investigation into a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a motor vehicle on May 17 at approximately 9:13 p.m. The incident occurred on Lockwood Ave., at its intersection with William St.

A 17-year-old male from Stamford was driving a 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle north on Lockwood Ave. A 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by Stamford resident Hector Rolando Lemus-Portillo, 58, attempted to make a left turn into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist attempted to stop but collided with the front of the Toyota, while Lemus-Portillo remained at the scene to assist investigators.

The unnamed motorcycle operator was taken to Stamford Hospital where medical staff attempted life-saving measures. However, he succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries on impact, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The investigation found Lemus-Portillo guilty, leading to a warrant for his arrest. He turned himself in Friday and was released on $60,000 bail with a Nov. 8 court date.
