Tioga County issues burn ban

OWEGO (WBNG) — Tioga County has issued an emergency burn ban on October 31st.

County officials said the burn ban was issued due to a lack of rainfall, which caused extremely dry conditions in the area.

Officials warned that the conditions could cause the fires to fall under control.

As a result, the county prohibited the following:

  • Any outdoor activity that would allow flames or sparks to lead to a fire
  • Incineration of refuse, garbage and other solid waste
  • Burning loose leaves and leaf piles
  • Burning downed limbs and branches
  • Burning grass, brush or wooded land

The ban will last for 30 days, unless it is canceled by a subsequent order.

Tioga County departments and agencies have been ordered to take the necessary steps to protect life and property.
