Man accused of stabbing at DeKalb car dealership

DEKALB, Ill. (WIFR) – A man shot by police after a stabbing at a DeKalb car dealership is facing multiple charges, investigators said Thursday.

Charles Tripicchio, 32, of DeKalb, is charged with armed violence, attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and aggravated assault.

Around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 23, DeKalb Police officers were called to Brian Bemis Toyota of DeKalb, 1890 Sycamore Rd. for a messy customer with a knife.

The police report Tripicchio attacked the dealership’s employees, with one employee receiving a non-life-threatening stab wound to “an extremity.”

When officers arrived, police say Tripicchio refused to drop the knife and advanced toward them. Police shot the suspect and he was taken to a Rockford-area hospital for treatment.

Tripicchio is said to be in police custody while in hospital. After he is released, he will be taken to the DeKalb County Jail.

Illinois State Police are handling the use of force investigation.

Investigators say Tripicchio was arrested on a charge of domestic battery for an incident that occurred on Oct. 9. Following a detention hearing, he was released from jail on Oct. 10, according to the DeKalb Police Department.
