Judge sets hearing on $1 million sweepstakes from Elon Musk’s PAC helping Donald Trump

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia judge is holding a hearing Thursday morning on the city attorney’s request to foreclose on Elon Musk’s home $1 Million Daily Lottery in battleground states. The gifts come from Musk’s political organization, which aims to boost of Donald Trump presidential campaign.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, a Democrat, filed a lawsuit Monday to stop the American PAC sweepstakes, which are set to run until Election Day. Judge Angelo Foglietta will hear motions on the matter in a City Hall courtroom.

Matthew Haverstick, one of several attorneys representing the defendants, declined to say Wednesday night whether Musk would attend the hearing.

The lottery is open to people from the belligerent states who sign a petition supporting the Constitution.

Krasner said he could still consider criminal charges, saying he has a duty to protect the public from both illegal lotteries and “interference with the integrity of elections.”

Election law experts have raised questions about the violation of federal law that prohibits someone from paying others to vote. Musk distributed the money as both a prize and earnings for work as the group’s spokesperson.

Krasner, in the lawsuit, said America PAC and Musk “are in unquestionable violation of Pennsylvania’s statutory prohibitions against illegal sweepstakes and are defrauding consumers.”

Both Trump and Harris have made repeated visits to the state as they battle for Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes.

Musk, who founded SpaceX and adze and owns X, has gone all-in on Trump in this election, saying he believes civilization is at stake if he loses. He’s doing much of his get-out-the-vote effort for Trump through his super PAC, which can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money.

It was committed over $70 million to super PACs to help Trump and other Republicans win in November.
