A Rockford woman has been charged after accidentally firing a gun, police said

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A 27-year-old woman is facing charges after she got into a physical fight and accidentally fired a gun, according to police.

Ashley Surrah of Rockford is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, aggravated assault and two counts of endangering the life of a child.

Just after 6:35 p.m., Oct. 29, Rockford Police responded to the 2200 block of Shelly Drive/Auburn Manor for reports of a physical fight, shots fired and a vehicle leaving the area.

A short time later, officers located the vehicle in the 300 block of Oakley Ave. with five people inside. They also say they found a loaded gun in the car. Surrah is the only suspect taken into custody.

Surrah is currently being held in the county jail and her next court appearance is scheduled for October 30.
