5 Vehicle Thefts Reported on Staten Island October 14-20: Here’s Where

STATEN ISLAND, NY — Five vehicle thefts were reported the week of October 14-20 on Staten Island, including four on the same day.

Overall, the number of car thefts reported in the district for the year to October 20 fell by 24 per cent (282 compared to 372) compared to the same period in 2023, the data shows The latest NYPD CompStat figures.

The database indicates that five cars were reported stolen on Staten Island between Oct. 14 and 20, the most recent week for which statistics are available.

Here’s a look at those incidents:

— On Oct. 15 at 1 p.m., a carjacking was reported at Vanderbilt Avenue and Errington Place in Clifton.

On October 18, four car thefts were reported:

— At 10 a.m., a carjacking occurred at the intersection of McClean, Ocean and Florida avenues in South Beach.

— An hour later, at 11 a.m., a carjacking was reported at the intersection of Wayne Street and North Burgher Avenue in West Brighton.

— At 4 p.m., a carjacking was reported at Hannah and Bay streets in Tompkinsville.

— During the evening at 10 p.m., a car theft was reported along Drumgoole Road East and Sally Court in Eltingville.

A dramatic shift in NYPD strategy has resulted in less crime overall after an increase in Staten Island in 2023. The NYPD adopted a tactical change in the late summer of 2023, developing a complex, multi-state system to gather and analyze information as a strategy to combat car theft and especially break-ins. Assistant Chief Joseph Gulotta, former NYPD Staten Island precinct commander, told the Advance/SILive.com in a December interview.
