Australian police have recovered 40,000 stolen ‘Bluey’ coins

Sydney — Australian police announced Wednesday they have recovered more than 40,000 stolen limited-edition coins based on the animated children’s series. “Blue.”

The series premiered in Australia in 2018 and began airing on Disney+ in 2020.

The 40,061 coins recovered were still in Royal Australian Mint plastic bags in which they had been stolen three months earlier, police said.

Police were notified on July 12 that 63,000 of the yet-to-be-released series of coins produced by the National Mint in Canberra had been stolen from a warehouse in the Sydney suburb of Wetherill Park, not far from where they were recovered coins on July 12. Tuesday.

Three people were charged for the theft.

A 27-year-old woman who police say led two accomplices to the July burglary was arrested on Tuesday hours before the coins were recovered.

Police raided a property in Sydney on July 31 and recovered 189 coins. They discovered that the dealer who sold them was a legitimate coin collector who had innocently bought them for $1.50 (US 98 cents) each. He received no compensation for the confiscated coins.

A spokesman for the Royal Australian Mint was unavailable for comment on Wednesday.
