St. Vincent re-enters the top 7 in the North Bay soccer rankings

There are two weeks left in the regular season, and there is some notable movement in The Press Democrat prep football rankings this week — with the potential for a lot more after this week.

St. Vincent is back in the top seven after dispatching Ukiah last week as the Mustangs became the new favorite in the Redwood Empire Conference Bay Division.

This week, Casa Grande and American Canyon will square off in a highly anticipated battle for the REC-Valley title, while Cardinal Newman travels to Marin Catholic for the REC-Adobe title. Windsor and Rancho Cotate will also face off in another ranked matchup this week.

Also of note, the Cardinals moved up in both the North Coast and state rankings after a 31-3 blowout of San Marin last week. They are now ranked #3 in the NCS and #39 in the state in the CalHi Sports rankings.

1. Cardinal Newman (8-0)

Last ranking: 1

Last week: beat San Marin 31-3

Next: at Marin Catholic (6-2), Saturday, 2 p.m

2. Windsor (6-2)

Last ranking: 2

Last week: beat no. 5 Vintage 14-7

Next: at No. 7 Rancho Cotate (4-4), Friday at 7 p.m

3. Casa Grande (6-2)

Last ranking: 3

Last week: defeated Tamalpais 14-10

4. American Canyon (8-0)

5. Vintage (5-3)

Last ranking: 5

Last week: lost to No. 2 Windsor 14-7

Next: at San Marin (6-2), Friday at 7 p.m

6. St. Vincent (7-1)

Last ranking: rank

Last week: knock then-No. 7 Ear 35-24

Next: vs. Montgomery (3-5), Saturday, 2 p.m

7. Rancho Cotate (4-4)

Last ranking: 6

Last week: lost to Marin Catholic 30-0

Next: vs. no. 2 Windsor (6-2), Friday, 7 p.m

Abandoned: no. 7 Ukiah (5-3)

On the bubble: Sonoma Valley (8-0), Maria Carrillo (7-1), Ukiah (5-3)

Ukiah once again joins Sonoma Valley and Maria Carrillo on the balloon. The Pumas are in the midst of their best season in school history and are certainly knocking on the door to join the top seven. A win over Ukiah this week may be enough to earn a number next to their name.

Rancho Cotate has now lost three in a row and remains in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2003. A win this week against Windsor or San Marin in the final week will ensure playoff eligibility, but neither team will be easy get over.
