“Cutting edge” training comes to Wallace Community College with state grant

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Wallace Community College has been awarded a workforce development grant to develop a new information technology training platform for students.

The grant, totaling $380,266, will fund the development of the Cyber Range and Beyond program.

According to WCCD, the Cyber Range will replicate real-world IT environments and provide students with an immersive training experience in cyber security, cyber defense and network management. The program will use simulations and hands-on experience.

“This funding from the Alabama Community College System (ACCS) will allow us to significantly expand our efforts to prepare students for the future of work in IT and cybersecurity,” said Martha Compton, WCCD associate dean for technical and career education. “The Cyber range will provide students with the practical and hands-on experience needed to be competitive in today’s job market and will also ensure our graduates possess nationally recognized certifications that are essential in the industry.”

This program will help students prepare for careers as cybersecurity specialists, software developers, information systems analysts, information security analysts, database administrators, and more.
