Woman calls 911 to order pizza, prompting deputies to rescue her from alleged attacker

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA/Gray News ) – A woman called 911 to order a pizza and it wasn’t a mistake. It may have saved his life.

The woman called 911 and when the dispatcher answered, she said, “I’d like to order a pizza.”

When the dispatcher asked if she knew she was calling 911, the woman confirmed she knew she was calling that number. She was able to provide enough information to let them know she was in trouble and needed help.

The woman was being held against her will in a field and told dispatchers she was injured and needed help.

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies used cell tower technology to locate the woman and rescue her from her alleged attacker.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office released dramatic body camera video last week of the Oct. 19 incident.

When deputies arrived, 27-year-old Luis Moncayo Hernandez was on top of the woman.

In the video you can hear the deputy saying, “Let him go,” as the victim says, “He’s trying to rape me. Can you help me?”

The woman realizes help has arrived and is heard screaming, “Thank God! Praise the Lord!” as the deputies assure her that she is safe and that they are there to help.

“When you watch the video, if you’re a father or if you’re a grandfather, if you’re a brother, and you hear those screams coming from our victim, it raises the hair on the back of your neck.” Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said.

The woman knew her alleged attacker.

“The victim in this case said she knew her attacker, they went into the fernery to have a few drinks, liquor and that should have been it. However, during this outing he did a line of cocaine and she said he did a 180 and said he became extremely violent and wouldn’t let her go and tried to rape her. The video speaks for itself again,” said Chitwood.

Chitwood praised the response and the outcome.

“I’m so proud of number one, our victim, that we have everything to be able to preserve the intelligence and that information for our communications people. For our communications people to be able to decipher what’s going on and use technology to put our deputies in the general area where she was. And obviously you can see the deputy’s response and taking this bastard into custody,” Chitwood said.

Hernandez faces charges of attempted sexual assault, assault by strangulation and false imprisonment.
