A Michigan police officer smashes the windshield to rescue a woman from her burning car

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — A central Michigan police officer smashed the windshield of a burning car and pulled a woman to safety through the flames, a dramatic rescue that was recorded on his body camera.

Video released by Mount Pleasant police showed the officer smashing the windshield with a heavy tool as fire engulfed the overturned vehicle Sunday night.

A foot suddenly appeared through the windshield, and the officer pulled the 22-year-old Detroit-area woman completely out of the car. Their names have not been released.

“Who else is there?” asked the officer.

“I don’t know,” the woman replied.

“Don’t you know who’s in the car?” said the officer.

There was no one else in the vehicle. The video has been shared hundreds of times on social media.

“So thankful for our emergency responders! Great job getting her out!” Rachael Thayer he said on Facebook.
