AEW is still a piece of clay, we can mold it into anything we want

AEW world champion Jon Moxley says AEW is wide open and can be molded into anything.

Talking to BJ Lisko for Youngstown StudioJon Moxley discussed the rise of AEW. Noting that it was still a young company, he said that it was basically a small child and could be molded into anything they wanted.

“When you look at it now, it’s still a very young company,” Jon Moxley said. “In wrestling, five years can seem like a very, very long time, but in terms of a successful organization or company, it’s extremely young. He is still a child. AEW is still a toddler, so it’s wide open to mold it into whatever we want. There are no rules. Like my three-year-old daughter, we have a whole person to grow into. AEW is wide open, it’s still a piece of clay.

“There’s been a few bumps in it, there’s a few prints in it, it’s taken a certain shape, but it’s still just a lump of clay, which is a very interesting thing because we can turn it into anything we want, anything. we could imagine. There are no rules. Any professional wrestling rules or television rules or rules… we put those rules on ourselves or they’re in our imaginations, or they’re dictated to us by someone else, by an outside force, by someone who’s not part of it. of the creative, who does not have his hands on clay. So if you drop all that and just look at the clay and use your imagination and say, “What can we turn this into?” Literally, anything is possible.”

Jon Moxley on the future of AEW

Jon Moxley went on to say that he was excited about the future, especially when he thought about what AEW could look like years from now.

“I’m not really concerned about it right now, I’m worried about what it might be five years from now, or ten years from now, or 20 years from now,” Jon Moxley said. “That’s the interesting thing for me. But the journey of a thousand miles, a million miles, begins with a single step. When you look back at it and you have to look at the map, like okay, we moved like an inch and a million mile journey, it’s a huge map. You get caught up in the moment and this and that, and people get very tunnel-visioned in their worlds, but when you step back and look, it’s kind of exactly what you’d expect if you looked at it broadly.

“This is pretty much exactly what you would have expected from a new company in this environment and in this day and age, but now we have a new deal with television which brings new opportunities and there are other opportunities and ideas and things. Professional wrestling, the beautiful thing is that it is always changing, always evolving and always growing. If you’re not keeping up with it, if you’re not constantly learning, then you’re falling behind. Some of the smartest people in the business at one point thought they knew everything had stopped learning, and then ten years later, 20 years later, they’re so far behind they’ll never catch up . We can never be like that, I’ll never be like that.”

Jon Moxley wants to be at the top

Moxley then emphasized that he and AEW wanted to be on top and were aiming to be experimental. He stated that he had no problem trying something and it didn’t work.

“We want to be cutting edge and experienced,” Jon Moxley said. “I’d rather be the first person to try something and it’s a mess and we all learn from it. I’d rather be the first person to show the world, hey, you can’t walk on water, you’d drown. Someone had to try first. So I have no problem with us trying things like that. The future, for me, has never been a more exciting time because the future is wide open to do whatever we want to do, if you just have the guts to walk the path and start seeing what happens.”
