Record highs Tuesday, next weather forecast brings a rain/snow mix.

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – Tuesday will be the warmest day of the week and possibly the warmest of the rest of the year. Highs will top out in the upper 70s and possibly even the 80s. Several communities will have record highs by the end of today. The sky is partly cloudy.

Most of these highs will be broken today.

A few showers cannot be ruled out late Tuesday through early Wednesday. The bulk of the rain, however, will occur late Wednesday through Thursday afternoon and evening. A cold front will move through our southern communities Wednesday afternoon. Temperatures will drop from the low 70s on Wednesday to the low 50s on Thursday for Halloween. You will need to group up for any trick or treating. Rain boots and maybe snow boots are also recommended as some communities could get 1-3 inches of rain. This is definitely the best chance of rain we’ve had in the last month to six weeks. Accumulating snow is possible Thursday afternoon, mainly along and north of Highway 64. The best accumulation chances will be mainly over high, grassy areas.

In addition to the rain, communities in the Northwoods can expect a rain/snow mix Thursday afternoon and evening. Any snow will have a hard time accumulating because of the warmer air that started the work week. If the snow is heavy enough, however, there could be some minor accumulations on higher ground.

Temperatures will feel much more fall-like by Halloween and as we turn the calendar to November. Highs will mostly top out in the low to mid 50s Friday and into next weekend. Our next chance for rain looks to be Sunday, but it’s too early to tell how much rain we’ll get.
