The opposition in Georgia organizes a protest march against the result of the parliamentary elections – Lumea

TBILISI, November 17. /TASS/. Georgia’s opposition forces are organizing a march in Tbilisi to protest the outcome of the recent parliamentary elections, a TASS correspondent reports.

The march started from three locations in Tbilisi, with protesters planning to meet for a rally in front of the parliament building.

Georgia held parliamentary elections on October 26, with 18 parties involved, including the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, which has been in power for 12 years. During these elections, electronic ballot boxes were used for the first time. According to final data from the country’s Central Electoral Commission, the ruling party won 53.93 percent of the vote and won 89 seats in parliament, allowing Georgian Dream to form an independent government. In addition, the Coalition for Change (11.03%) won 19 seats, the Unity – National Movement (10.17%) – 16 seats, the Strong Georgia Coalition (8.81%) – 14 seats, and the Gakharia Party for Georgia ( 7.78%) – 12 places.

President Salome Zourabichvili and all opposition parties refuse to recognize the results of the elections, calling them rigged. Starting on November 4, the opposition in Georgia organized protest actions demanding the rerun of the elections.
