Abnormally warm end of October

  • Warming up to Halloween

  • Chances of rain seem low

Warming up for the week

From Tuesday to Thursday: A large high pressure system is moving into the eastern US and it’s going to heat things up! By Thursday afternoon, we could see highs climb into the 70s and even near 80°. It looks like we’ll be pretty dry for the rest of October, probably ending the month 1-3 inches below normal for precipitation.

Temperatures will warm each day and may reach the 70s to 80s by the end of the week.

Spectacular Halloween plans

Halloween night: Get ready for a fun night! Early evening temperatures will be in the 60s and 70s under mostly clear skies – perfect for collecting candy without any trickery from the weather!

A relaxing weekend

Friday: A cold front is making its way out of the Ohio River Valley. Right now it doesn’t look like it will bring much moisture – just a few isolated showers.

However, we should prepare for some windy conditions and a slight cooling as we head into the weekend. The wind can knock off some of the leaves on the trees, especially those areas that have reached their peak.

A mainly dry front arrives on Friday, bringing the least chance of showers.

Fire safety this fall

Fall fire season: Just a reminder, the fall fire season runs from October 15th to November 30th. It is important to avoid burning on hot, dry and windy days and always check local burning regulations. If you decide to burn outdoors, never leave your fire unattended – remember, about 90% of wildfires are caused by people!

Autumn foliage update

As we close out October, fall foliage is in full swing! Areas like the Greenbrier and places along the Blue Ridge Parkway look especially vibrant this weekend. Elsewhere, the colors are changing rapidly but have not yet reached their peak. Expect the beautiful fall hues to wrap up in the next week or two!
