Columbus teenager critically injured in Hilltop shooting. The question remains as to who shot him.

An emergency dispatcher received a call early Tuesday that a Columbus teenager had shot himself, but the story later changed.

Columbus police are investigating a shooting in the city’s Hilltop neighborhood that left a 15-year-old boy with serious injuries.

Columbus police responded to a shooting at 12:18 a.m. in the 200 block of North Eureka Avenue, Sgt. Joe Albert said in a statement. A first responder told police someone had shot themselves at that location, but the victim told officers someone else had shot him.

The 15-year-old was transported to the National Children’s Hospital in critical condition. A gun was recovered from the scene, and police believe other people fled before officers arrived, Albert said.

The department’s Assault Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting. Albert said it is not yet known if someone else shot the boy or if the boy shot himself accidentally or on purpose.
