Scary local location recognized in recent survey

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Stuckey’s Bridge was recently rated the 15th scariest street in America, according to a survey conducted by Gunther Volkswagen Delray Beach in Delray Beach, Florida.

But why is this bridge so creepy? What would cause people to avoid this road? Zack Rogers has the story.

Although the bridge itself is not open to traffic, Stuckey’s Bridge still holds an infamous legend with people in and around Lauderdale County.

The original bridge was built around 1850, according to county records, then replaced with a steel-frame bridge around 1901.

According to local legend, Stuckey, a member of the infamous Dalton Gang, would rob and kill people at his nearby inn and bury the evidence along the riverbank.

After being caught, he was hanged from the bridge and his body was loosened to fall into the Chunky River.

“The locals still say that if you go out to this place at night, alone, you can still see him walking along the bridge and down the river, with the lantern flickering at night, or you can hear the splashing in the stream. As for me, I think I’ll steer clear for now. I’ve been doing quite a bit of paranormal investigation lately.”
