APACHE JUNCTION, AZ (AZFamily) — A portion of US 60 was closed for hours in the East Valley following a serious crash early Monday afternoon.

The collision took place just after 1:00 p.m. in the eastbound lanes US 60 near Meridian Road. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, a westbound pickup carrying a trailer with spiked pipes, swinging the trailer over the median.

DPS says the trailer then collided with an eastbound car, seriously injuring the driver.

Video from AZFamily’s news helicopter shows a pickup truck, trailer and sedan with heavy damage.

Eastbound traffic was detoured onto Signal Butte Road until lanes reopened around 4 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
