Azusa Pacific University Nurses Community Volunteers Serve the High Desert Homeless

The Azusa Pacific University Nursing Program and community volunteers served the homeless of the High Desert on Wednesday.

The school’s ‘Socks, Shoes and Feet Wash’ event was held at Victor Valley Rescue Mission on Seventh Street in downtown Victorville.

The non-profit organization Family Assistance Program also opened its outdoor area to host, the mission stated.

Nurses washed feet and provided medical care, while partner organizations distributed food, clothing, shoes, supplies and resources.

Other groups that helped included the Symba Centre, High Desert Second Chance Food BankBridges Beauty College, God’s hand outstretchedEncore School LAPEL Program, A Better Way, Community Health Action Network, The Lord’s Table, El Sol, Amy the Phone Lady, and High Desert Community Health and Information.

“God’s Hand Extended has been privileged to stand with an inspiring coalition of partners, demonstrating the power of God’s unconditional love,” said Susan Padilla, the nonprofit’s founder.

The foot washing event took place several times throughout the year, including Maundy Thursday or Maundy Thursday, a day of Holy Week that commemorates when Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples after the Last Supper, according to Scripture.
