Rebecca Myrick charged in connection with fentanyl overdose death in Elkmont

ELKMONT, Ala. (Waffle) – A woman has been charged after a man was found dead of an alleged fentanyl overdose Saturday night in Elkmont.

According to the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence on Witty Mill Road for a possible overdose around 7:55 p.m.

After deputies arrived, they found 54-year-old Lawrence Ward Light deceased.

Investigators were then called to the home. During the investigation, investigators established probable cause to obtain a search warrant for the residence.

Following the investigation, investigators determined that Rebecca Myrick, 60, of Elkmont, allegedly gave Light fentanyl which, once ingested, caused his death.

Investigators found more fentanyl and drug paraphernalia while searching the entire residence.

The sheriff’s office said probable cause was found to arrest Myrick on the following charges:

  • Homicide – Non-family – Other weapon
  • Illegal distribution of controlled substances
  • Possession of controlled substances – Dangerous drugs

Myrick is being held without bond at this time.

The sheriff’s office said it’s seeing an increase in fentanyl overdoses and says it’s critical to recognize that “those who push this poison put not only those struggling with addiction at risk, but our entire community.”
