Police have finally identified an officer behind the shooting of Igbo-Jah musician

Enugu StateNigeria – The Enugu State Police Command has revealed the identity of the police inspector involved in the fatal shot popular Nigerian musicianChikezie Mba popularly known as Igbo-Jah.

This revelation comes amid public outcry following the tragic death of Mr. Mba on Friday at the Anti-Cult Unit of the Police in Enugu.

Igbo-Jah fired by officer

According to PREMIUM TIMES, the incident occurred during an event at the police facility where the officers allegedly started discharging their firearms indiscriminately. Caught in the crossfire, Mr. Mba sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Police authorities initially described Mr Mba’s visit to the facility as “friendly” and claimed he was leaving the premises when Inspector Joseph Ozonwanji allegedly opened fire on him.for reasons that have not yet been determined.

Enugu police identify the officer

Although Ozonwanji’s name was not initially released, the Enugu State Police Spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed his identity in a statement released on Saturday evening.

Ndukwe added that Ozonwanji is now in custody and assured the public that the inspector will be “made to face the full weight of the law at the conclusion of the investigation.”

News of Mr. Mba’s death sent shockwaves through the Enugu community, prompting Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to order an immediate investigation into the murder.

Legit.ng had reported that many fans of the slain artist and concerned acquaintances took to the streets to protest his death.

Enugu: Retired policeman declared wanted

earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Enugu State Police Command declared a retired officer and seven other suspects wanted for alleged murderterrorism, kidnapping and other crimes in the state.

The state police spokesperson, Ndukwe, revealed a 47-year-old retired police officer, Uche Asogwa, as a wanted man.
