More charges filed against women accused of perfume theft

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Two women are facing multiple charges after a string of thefts from Bath & Body Works locations in the Kansas City area.

Platte County, Missouri, Circuit Court Records indicate that on Monday, Oct. 21, Kaylan M. Coppage, 24, of Kansas City, was charged with a string of thefts from Bath & Body Works locations in the metro area.

Court documents noted that Coppage was initially taken over by Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department in early September after she was snapped at Bath & Body Works at Legends Outlets. At the time, she had been with another suspect, Alishia Baker-Jefferson, 22, of Kansas City, Kansas, who managed to escape.

Surveillance footage showed Coppage and Baker-Jefferson committing multiple robberies together at that location. The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department had already started an investigation into the burglary ring.

During an interview with investigators, Coppage admitted to five thefts at two separate Bath & Body Works locations totaling nearly $7,500. However, surveillance footage was able to link her to three additional thefts that brought that total to nearly $12,000.

A warrant for Coppage’s arrest was issued Monday with bond set at $10,000. Baker-Jefferson was arrested in mid-September on $50,000 bail. As of Saturday, Coppage does not appear to be behind bars following her release from the Wyandotte County Jail in Kansas. Baker-Jefferson also does not appear to be behind bars.

A court appearance has not been set in Coppage’s case, however, Baker-Jefferson is scheduled to face a judge at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29.
