Police are asking UK prosecutors to consider charging Russell Brand

Detectives investigating allegations of sexual assault against Russell Brand have asked prosecutors to consider filing charges against the former comedian.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed it had received “a number of allegations of sexual offenses in London” and elsewhere in the UK following a joint investigation into Brand by Channel 4 REFERENCES, The Times and The Sunday Times in September 2023. The program aired extensive allegations, including some of rape and sexual assault against the Brand.

The Brit has denied all the claims made against him, which date back to 2006 to 2013, when the 49-year-old was at the height of his fame working on Big Brother’s Big Mouth, The kings of comedy and Big Brother Celebrity Hijacking. A Investigation commissioned by UK-based Banijay Later, informal complaints about Brand were made over 20 years ago on the set.

On Wednesday, the Met Police confirmed that The Hollywood Reporter that an evidence file has been passed to the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for their review.

“As part of the investigation, a man in his 40s was interviewed by officers under caution on three separate occasions,” their statement said. These interviews related to a series of non-recent sexual offenses which are alleged to have taken place in and outside of London.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our investigation is ongoing and a file has been forwarded to the CPS. We have a team of dedicated officers who provide specialist support to women who have come forward. We are committed to investigating sex crimes, regardless of how long ago they are alleged to have occurred.”

said one of the women REFERENCES that Brand entered into a relationship with her when he was 31 and she was 16. Their relationship lasted three months, she had said, and Brand had been “emotionally abusive and controlling”. Another alleged that Brand raped her in 2012 at his Los Angeles home, according to The Sunday Times.

Ago REFERENCES the investigation, the BBC it quickly removed programming with Brand from its iPlayer and BBC Sounds streaming services, saying it “assessed that it now falls short of audience expectations”. Channel 4 did the same, while YouTube banned it from making money from videos posted on the site.

Brand attended three police interviews, two in late 2023 and one in January 2024. He was recently baptized and now devotes much of his platform to his new Christian faith.
