Subway sergeant accused of possessing child pornography has $100,000 cash bond

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Suspended Sergeant Kevin Menon of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department posted his $100,000 cash bond Saturday, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records.

Menon is no longer in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.

Currently, Menon has two criminal cases pending against him.

Earlier this month, Menon was indicted by a grand jury on charges of oppression, assault and perjury. He is accused of using his powers as a police officer to set up illegal arrests on the Las Vegas Strip.

This week, Menon was arrested for a second time at the Regional Justice Center ahead of his indictment hearing as police said detectives found child pornography on two of his devices.

On Thursday, lawyers for both sides argued over bail.

Chief Deputy Prosecutors Nick Portz and Christopher Hamner said Menon is a danger to the community and a flight risk.

Prosecutors alleged that Menon victimized people both at work and at home.

They asked for $250,000 bail.

But Menon’s attorney, Dominic Gentile, asked for $10,000 bail. He said the only question in the case is whether Menon will appear in court.

Gentile claimed that Menon appeared in court on Tuesday but could not make it to the hearing as the police had arrested him.

While prosecutors asked Judge Nadia Wood to order the forfeiture of Menon’s firearms and passports, Gentile said he already had them.

Ultimately, Judge Wood set bail at $100,000 cash on finding concern with the charges in both cases against Menon.

Menon is due back in court on November 6 for his initial indictment.

His preliminary hearing in the child sexual abuse case is set for Nov. 7.
