DESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Several students are reportedly hospitalized after a crash in Destin Friday night.

One of those students attends Destin High School on Saturday, the principal of Destin High School released the following statement:

Dear Shark Families:

I want to share an update on the car accident in Destin last night that left one of our students hospitalized. I personally visited the student and his father last night at the hospital and promised him that his favorite food was waiting for him once he came out of surgery.

The multi-car crash left South Walton area students also hospitalized. I’m told those students are being treated at hospitals in the Gulf Coast area.

This news affected our school community, especially students and staff, as false rumors quickly circulated on the Internet. Our Shark Counseling Team will be on campus on Monday to assist students or staff who may need additional support. I will personally coordinate support for the student’s family as appropriate.

Please keep the affected families, as well as our sharks and the Seahawk community, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
