MAXTON, NC (WMBF) – A Maxton man is behind bars accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter after opening fire on an occupied car.

The Maxton Police Department arrested 31-year-old Dedric Page in connection with Sunday’s shooting, charging him with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and other weapons charges.

Officers responded just before 2pm to East Graham Street for a child suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS treated the girl at the scene, but she later died at the hospital.

Maxton Police Chief Schirra Johnson identified the girl as Quazariya Williams. Her mother told police that Page was Williams’ father.

Johnson confirmed to WMBF News that police believe the mother was the intended target of the shooting. Including the victim and her mother, there were five people in the car that was shot, Johnson confirmed.

Page is currently booked at the Robeson County Detention Center.
