Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a home on Country Oak Loop in Fergus Falls on Aug. 2 for a 28-year-old man who was unresponsive, not breathing, pale and cold.

According to court documents, a deputy found the man lying on his stomach on the floor with his upper chest and face “planted into the front of the couch.” Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.

Law enforcement found various drug paraphernalia in the living area with the man, as well as a bag containing a white powder. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office ultimately determined the cause of death to be the combined toxicity of drugs, including methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Investigators searched the victim’s cell phone and found messages between him and Kaitlyn Jo Carroll.

Court records say there was a discussion related to a completed sale of 3 scores (or 0.3 grams) of fentanyl for $60 from Carroll to the victim hours before he was found dead.

Investigators also discovered Facebook messages from the day the victim was found dead, where Carroll tells someone, “I don’t know what the hell I’m gonna do, man.”

“I am very afraid of it.”

“But if THEY ask about stuff? Like po po.”

“I’m so scared man. IDK what to do.”

The investigation concluded that the white powder in the bag tested positive for fentanyl. Court documents say tests concluded Carroll’s DNA was also found on the bag.

Carroll’s bail was set at $150,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 20.
