Court hearing for Eric Hovde’s TV ad lawsuit scheduled for January

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – A judge will hear Eric Hovde’s trade trial in January, one day before the new Congress takes office.

Eric Hovde is running to represent Wisconsin in the US Senate, a seat currently held by Tammy Baldwin.

Hovde filed a defamation lawsuit in Brown County Court in August against a Democratic group and media companies over an ad around the election.

Hovde and his campaign sued over an ad alleging he “rigged the system” to make money and “sheltered his wealth” in tax havens.

The political action committee named in the lawsuit is called “WinSenate.” He received a cease and desist letter in June. PAC responded by arguing that the announcement was correct.

The suit says the ad was not taken off the airwaves and names Gray, Nexstar, Evening Telegram, Sinclair, Fox, Ion and Scripps as media defendants.

The court hearing is scheduled for January 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. The 119th United States Congress is scheduled to begin on January 3.

Full disclosure: WBAY-TV is owned by Gray Media Group, one of the defendants in this lawsuit.
