Former Mayfield Service Director Scott Sipos indicted following allegations of illegal use of village-issued credit cards

MAYFIELD, Ohio — Former village service director Scott Sipos has been indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury on theft in office, fraud and two additional misdemeanor charges.

Sipos was terminated from his job on June 14 following an investigation into his activities. He allegedly improperly and illegally used village-issued credit cards and vendor accounts and did not properly account for his personal time outside of his office.

According to an Oct. 24 release from Mayor Brenda Bodnar, the Village of Mayfield Police, after allegations were made, initiated an investigation into Sipos’ activities on May 29, 2024.

Sipos was placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation, and was terminated shortly thereafter.

The police department then referred the matter to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.

An indictment means that enough evidence has been found to formally charge a suspect and that a criminal case for crimes has begun to move toward trial.

The release said the village would not issue further comment while the charges are pending.

A 1992 graduate of Mayfield High School, Sipos had worked for the village services department since 1993. He was a foreman when Bodnar sent it in March 2021 to lead the department.

Sipos was replaced by Frank Stupczy, who was sworn in at Bodnar on August 19.

Stupczy has been employed by the Mayfield Village Service Department since 2006. He started part-time and became a full-time employee in 2013.

Stupczy holds a master’s degree in public administration and is a certified arborist. He previously worked as Sipos Assistant Director of Service and was Acting Director of Service while Sipos was on leave.
