Michigan wine store employee accused of embezzling more than $350,000

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has charged a Grosse Pointe Woods man in connection with the alleged embezzlement of more than $350,000 from a wine store where he was employed as director of operations. Ishpinder Sahni, 31, of Grosse Pointe Woods, was arraigned Thursday on three counts of embezzlement over $100,000, use of a computer to commit a crime and failure to file taxes.

The charges come as a result of Sahni failing to report the money as income on his taxes.

Sahni is accused of diverting online sales totaling more than $350,000 into his personal account while working for the company from 2021 to 2023.

“Embezzlement is a serious crime that can devastate small businesses and have a ripple effect in their communities,” Nessel said. “My office will continue to prosecute employees who steal from employers to protect business owners and their customers.”

Sahni is due back in court on Nov. 13 for a probable cause conference. He faces up to 20 years in prison for embezzlement and computer crimes.
