Former Madison County detention worker charged with animal cruelty

MADISON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – A former Madison County detention worker was arrested for animal cruelty after deputies said they found 45 dogs and four horses suffering from malnutrition.

Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker said deputies were notified of animal cruelty-related issues on Thursday, Oct. 24. The incident occurred at a home on Old Canton Road, and the suspect, Wesley Kiser, was arrested at the scene.

The animals were not given any protection due to bad weather, Tucker said. The animals were taken to Webster Animal Shelter in Madison and several veterinarians for care. Tucker said his goal is to rehome the animals.

“Kiser will be charged with animal cruelty for each animal removed from the facility,” Tucker said. “The dogs and horses were living in deplorable conditions and we hope they will be matched with new owners. To those who harm our animals, remember that we will take every legal action to ensure that you pay for harming the defenseless. This will never be tolerated in Madison County. A former detention worker (who has been employed for approximately nine months) ) Kiser was arrested and terminated from the scene.”
