This up-and-coming Indonesian island has a beautiful new resort — and we got a first look

get over Bali — Indonesia has 17,507 more islands to explore, and another just won a new luxury resort.

On November 1st, The Sira, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spawill open on the island of Lombok, bringing a 60-key luxury resort to its namesake white-sand beach. The resort will have ocean-view rooms, along with beachfront and garden villas with private pools and terraces. (The spectacular Beach House, a three-bed, four-bath villa, has panoramic ocean views, along with access to a personal butler.)

“Lombok offers what many of today’s luxury travelers are looking for – spectacular natural beauty off the beaten track, the chance to be immersed in a rich culture in a meaningful way, and access to the great outdoors, wellness and unique dining . experiences,” said The Sira Managing Director Harish Nair Travel + leisure.

Alongside the island’s cerulean waters, the resort’s aquatic centerpiece is a 230-foot palm-fringed outdoor pool. Sira will also house a spa with an outdoor treatment room and Lombok’s only vitality pool. (It’s also located next to Sire Beach Golf Club for those who want to practice their swing.)

On-site, The Sira will host four dining destinations: The Island’s Table, an all-day dining restaurant serving local cuisine; Medsa, a restaurant with Mediterranean specialties; Sija, a restaurant with Asian specialties; and Glassary cocktail bar.

Like others emerging Indonesian islandsLombok has recently seen a rapid increase in tourism. It recorded more than 2 million visitors in 2023 – a 20% increase on the previous year – but a number that still falls short of Bali, which saw more than 15 million visitors in the same period.

However, the island’s understated nature doesn’t mean you’ll be bored here. Lombok itself has plenty of attractions – the Sukarara Weaving Village and Tiu Kelep Waterfall are two standouts – and it’s also a great launch pad for exploring the famous Gili Islands, a tiny car-free trio known for world-class diving worldwide and a remarkably relaxed lifestyle. .

“The three gillis are marvels to behold and a short boat ride from our resort, while the main island has everything from stunning waterfalls to local pearl farms to explore. Sira is the next story of island splendor and a gateway to these adventures that leave lasting impressions,” said Nair.

“Every aspect of the property, from the restaurants and spa to activities like a nighttime food market on the beach with local vendors, will connect visitors to Lombok.”
