First Alert Weather: Mostly sunny with lake effect showers east of Rochester

Western New York woke up to a very chilly Sunday, with temperatures in the low 30s at Rochester Airport this morning, although cold northwesterly winds produced a wind chill in the low 20s.

These winds will not only keep us cool, but will also bring a few lake effect showers to areas mainly southwest and east of Rochester. For most of Monroe County into the Finger Lakes, expect mostly sun and dry weather. Any lake-effect showers will hug the lakeshore and move inland east of Rochester, so Sodus Point can expect light showers, mainly Sunday morning and evening.

Highs Sunday will remain in the low 50s. Lake showers may linger overnight along the Monroe County shoreline eastward toward Sodus Point. Accumulations will be tracked. Overnight temperatures will still be cool in the mid 30s.

High pressure moves into our area on Monday, but we stay in the upper 50s for the daytime high temperature. Winds are expected to calm down to 5-10 mph for Monday, making for a better day to rake the lawn after a windy weekend. After a brief disturbance on Tuesday, temperatures rise to near record highs on Wednesday. A high of 77 degrees is currently forecast for Wednesday, just one degree below the record high of 78 degrees in 1946.

A cold front is scheduled to move in Thursday, which could affect those who would like some Halloween showers.
