The Jalandhar Rural Police has busted a dangerous robbery gang by arresting two of its members who were involved in several incidents of robbery in the district. Police have recovered stolen vehicles and weapons used in crimes.

The arrested accused have been identified as Tajinder Singh alias Malli of Bika Colony and Harpreet Singh alias Happy of New Baldev Nagar in the city. SSP, Jalandhar Rural, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that following a spate of robbery incidents in the jurisdiction, special teams have been constituted to nab the perpetrators. “Based on information about the movement of suspects near the Dantar area, the teams executed a well-coordinated operation that led to these arrests,” Khakh said.

The operation was conducted under the close supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Surinder Pal Dhogadi. The special team was headed by Inspector Bikram Singh, SHO, Maqsudan.

Acting on reliable information, the police team strategically positioned itself near Dantar and detained the accused for recovery of incriminating evidence including a knife, an Activa scooter (PB-08-EV-3803), a motorcycle and a mobile phone.

All cases were registered at the police station, Maqusdan.

During initial interrogation, the accused confessed that they were involved in several robbery incidents, including the August 23 incident where they robbed Manoj Kumar of his Activa scooter, mobile phone and Rs 3,500 at knife point near Bulandpur. The investigation revealed that the gang specifically targeted vulnerable people during the late hours.

The accused will be produced before a local court and their remand will be sought for further investigation. The police anticipate more recoveries during the remand period.
