    The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday morning at a student apartment complex.

    Officers arrived around 6:30 a.m. at the Redpoint Tallahassee Apartments on Mission Road, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a TPD incident alert posted on social media.

    “Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” TPD said.

    WCTV reported that a watch commander said the man was shot while trying to break into an apartment. However, a TPD spokesman said he could not confirm this due to the early stages of the investigation.

    A “person of interest” is being interviewed by detectives, but the case remains an open and active investigation. TPD said updates will be released as more information becomes available.

    The incident is the fourth fatal shooting this month. according to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence. It is also the 25th fatal shooting this year. surpassing last year’s total number of fatal shootings. So far in 2024, there have been at least 60 serious shootings in the capital and county, which also resulted in 45 injuries, according to to a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence. Last year, 24 people died and 72 people were injured in 87 shootings.

    Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident but did not speak to an officer at the scene to call 850-891-4200. They can also remain anonymous and be in line for a possible reward by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.
