RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Jaden Poor Bear, 31, of Pine Ridge was sentenced Monday afternoon to 40 months in federal prison.

20 months are being served for assault resulting in grievous bodily harm stemming from a March 2023 incident in which Poor Bear stabbed his cousin.

20 months will be served for aiding and abetting assault resulting in grievous bodily harm following an incident in January this year, which left another man with a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain after being beaten with a bat of baseball.

Poor Bear told the judge that he apologized for his role in both of the situations that led to his arrest and that it would be better to move on.

Before he was sentenced, the judge told Poor Bear that he hoped he could get better.
