Maple Leafs coach comments on Ryan Reaves suspension.

Toronto Maple leaves Coach Craig Berube disagrees with the NHL’s suspension of forward Ryan Reaves.

Reaves was ejected from Toronto’s win over him Edmonton Oilers on Nov. 16 for an illegal head check on Darnell Nurse. The NHL then announced that Reaves had been suspended for five games for the hit, which Berube disagreed with.

“I think it’s a lot, but the league will do what they think is the right thing,” Berube said. said on November 18. “I see. They came down hard on the headshots. It’s not like Reavo tried to headshot him. It was a tough play.”

Berube did not consider the hit worthy of a five-game suspension and was frustrated by the league’s decision.

The Maple Leafs coach also says that Reaves is not a dirty player and believes that the forward did not mean to hit Nurse in the head.

“He’s upset that he put his team down,” Berube said. “But at the same time, (with) his type of game, sometimes things happen. It’s not like he’s a dirty player. He is a clean player, in my opinion, for his role. She had no intention of him doing that. It just happened.”

Reaves he will be able to return to the lineup on December 4 against the Nashville Predators.

Star Oilers Forward Calls Reaves’ Hit ‘Dirty’

After the Oilers’ loss to the Maple Leafs on Nov. 16, the star forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was frustrated by Reaves’ hitting.

Nugent-Hopkins said the hit was dirty and something that shouldn’t be in hockey.

“I think it’s a dangerous play. He needs to know that Nursey doesn’t see it coming and choose the right path there. And no,” Nugent-Hopkins said after the match. “I mean, it’s hard to see one of your teammates on the ice like that. Dangerous game. You never want to see that.”

Nugent-Hopkins also expected the league to suspend Reaves, which ended up being the case.

“I don’t know. They’ll deal with it,” Nugent-Hopkins said of the deserved punishment for such a play. “The call on the ice, that was obviously the right call. But, I don’t know — they should take a good look , for sure.”

Maple Leafs Forward is having surgery

Maple Leafs veteran forward Calle Jarnkrok he underwent surgery and is considered to be out for the month.

Jarnkrok has yet to play a game this season due to injury. On Nov. 18, Berube said the Maple Leafs forward had groin and sports hernia surgery.

“They have to fix it and he’s going to be gone for a while,” Berube said. “It’s a shame because he’s a player we liked and he can help us and we really didn’t get the chance to do that”

Jarnkrok suffered a setback in his recovery earlier this month. The veteran forward is in the third year of a four-year, $8.4 million contract. Last season with the Maple Leafs, recorded 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 52 games.

Toronto will return to the ice on November 20 at home against the Vegas Golden Knights.
