The Lagos State The police command has launched a manhunt for a truck driver who allegedly hit a revenue collector on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday near New Garage in Lagos, involved a single container truck with registration number FST 887 XD.

Both the truck driver and its conductor fled the scene immediately after the accident.

The Managing Director of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident in a statement. He explained that the revenue collector was fatally shot while trying to collect tax from the truck driver. The victim tragically lost his life after being hit while crossing the highway.

LASTMA personnel quickly responded to the scene, taking steps to manage the situation.

The truck is disrupting the flow of traffic

According to Bakare-Oki, traffic officers removed the truck from the scene to reduce congestion caused by the accident. The car has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.

“The remains of the deceased have been respectfully handed over to the security officers of the Adigboluje Police Division,” Bakare-Oki said.

He added that the police are coordinating with the victim’s family to facilitate the necessary formalities. The victim’s wife, upon learning the devastating news, rushed to the scene in distress.

Official LASTMA sympathizes with the bereaved family

The Director General of LASTMA sent his sincere condolences to the bereaved family, expressing deep regret for the tragic incident. He called on transport union leaders to take immediate disciplinary action against the driver involved.

Bakare-Oki stressed the gravity of the situation, stressing the need for accountability. He urged drivers to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads to prevent similar incidents in the future.
