BEIRUT – An Israeli strike on a building in a densely populated Beirut neighborhood killed Hezbollah’s media relations chief Mohammad Afif on Sunday, two Lebanese security sources told Reuters, although there was no immediate confirmation from Hezbollah.

The Israeli military declined to comment in response to questions from Reuters.

The strike hit the Ras al-Nabaa neighborhood, where many people displaced from Beirut’s southern suburbs by Israeli bombing had sought refuge.

Security sources said it hit a building housing the Ba’ath Party offices, and the party’s head in Lebanon, Ali Hijazi, told Lebanese station Al-Jadeed that Afif was inside the building.

Lebanon’s health ministry said the strike killed one and wounded three.

Ambulances were heard rushing to the scene and volleys of gunfire rang out to prevent crowds of people from approaching the venue. Reuters
